Aiming to become one of the premier golf courses in the state of Texas, the new Champion Lakes was rebuilt by SAJO Construction in 1999 under the guidance of world-renowned architect Charles Howard. Since reopening in 2000, it established itself as one of the premier golf facilities in South Texas, serving as the home course for approximately twenty-two (22) annual tournaments, including the famous RGV API Fundraiser, the prestigious VAMOS Golf Tournament and the McAllen Amateur Golf Championship. Champion Lakes also hosted all four (4) LPGA’s Futures Tour stops in McAllen and is now the home course for thirty (30) Winter Texan Leagues; its popular Wednesday Sundowner accounts for a record 1,784 participants in one (1) season!
